With rounded sides rising from a short straight foot to a rim bordered with a slight concave groove, applied inside and put with a lustrous blackish-brown glaze liberally splashed with small 'oil spots' of varying sizes and attractive silvery-blue iridescence, the glaze stopping short in an irregular line above the neatly trimmed foot and revealing the dark grey, almost black body, the unglazed base incised with the two characters gong yu, 11.8cm diam. (4 5/8in diam.)
