Pleating is a veritable trademark and determines most of Isabelle de Borchgrave's pictorial and sculptural work. Inspired by the pleated fabric of Mariano Fortuny (1871-1949, textile designer), synonymous with elegance, luxury and sensuality in the early 1900s, Isabelle de Borchgrave's series of pleated works seizes on the codes of this technique and creates anamorphes on flat paper to reveal a result modified by the puckering of the paper.
This pleated work was first drawn on a tablet and remains the largest pleated work ever produced by the artist. Isabelle de Borchgrave's use of colour is an integral part of her artistic identity, and this pleated work demonstrates her mastery of contrast in her choice of colours.
