76. GRANDE STATUETTE DE GUANYIN EN PORCELAINE BLANC-DE-CHINE

A LARGE BLANC DE CHINE FIGURE OF GUANYIN
Late Qing Dynasty
Seated crossed-legged on a high openwork rockwork base, three scrolls wrapped in cloth resting on a pinnacle at one side, with the head slightly lowered and an withdrawn expression, hair drawn back and falling in long knotted tresses over her shoulders, her hands concealed in the ample folds of the sleeves of her flowing robe, the back with the impressed boji yuren mark.
48.5cm (19 1/8 in.) high.

According to P.J. Donnelly, the boji yuren mark is found almost always on figures. A very similar Blanc de Chine figure of Guanyin in the collection of the Seattle Art Museum, is published in Chinese Art in Overseas Collections. Buddhist Sculpture Taipei, 1986, no.184, p.200.
