96. GASSAN LINEAGE A Shintō Wakizashi in Mounts Edo period (1615-1868), 18th century Honzukuri, iorimune, chūgissaki, toriizori, forged in ayasugihada with a togari tempered edge ending in a kaen bōshi, the slightly machiokuri nakago (tang) with one hole and indistinct yasurime (file marks), 50,5cm, with a two-piece gilt-copper habaki; the 19th-century koshira-e comprising a kawarinuri saya fitted with silver hardware all chiselled with rolling waves, and shakudō kozuka with a dragon entwined on a ken, inscribed Jōshin, and a kōgai with a shishi chasing a butterfly, the dark wood tsuka fitted with silver mounts en suite to those on the saya, and a circular shinchū (brass) tsuba chiselled with a dragon in waves
