A BRONZE BUDDHIST RITUAL BELL (GOKOREI). Japan, Kamakura period, ca 13th/14th c. Height 17.5 cm. An eight-lobed lotus flower decorates the bell body topped by a seperately cast five-pronged vajra handle. Inside with ring for the clapper. For a similar bell see The Kyϋshϋ National Museum, inventary no. Several fine ring bands adorn the lower body. A ring for the clasp is attached on the inside. A similar object is catalogued in the Kyϋshϋ National Museum, no.
