A Cambodian sculpture of Vishnu, Phnom-Da, Pre-Khmer, 7th/8th century Sandstone with a beautiful aged patina. Hewn in one piece, the figure of the standing Vishnu with a high, cylindrical kiritamukuta crown. An artfully tied sambat around his hips. Of the original four arms with attributes, only one arm has survived in fragmented form. Mounted on a modern black pedestal. Height 56 cm, including the pedestal 65 cm. Adopting various incarnations, the mythological Hindu deity Vishnu mainly served as an identificational figure for the Khmer Empire and was frequently depicted as a radiant sun god.
