A DISC BROOCH - former Kofler-Truniger collection
Hellenistic, Southern Russia, 4th century BC.
Brooch with pearl wire and green, blue, and white enamel in cloisonné technique. Stylized palmette decoration and egg-and-dart pattern. Two grooved eyelets on the back.
Ø 2.3 cm.
Some oxidation. Enamel with losses.
Provenance:
- Formerly in the collection of Pierre Mavrogordato (1870–1948) in Römhild, Thuringia (according to index card).
- Collection of Ernst and Marthe Kofler-Truniger (1903–1990 & 1918–1999), Lucerne before 1964 (inv. no. K726A).
- Swiss private collection, Lucerne, acquired from the above in ca. 1974.
- By inheritance in the same Swiss family, Lucerne.
