A fine pair of cased percussion duelling pistols by Bertrand dating: Mid 19th Century provenance: Saint Petersburg, Octagonal, smoothbore, browned, 11 cal barrels, signed 'Bertrand. St. Petersbourg' in gold and marked '1' and '2' in gold, finely engraved with floral motifs at the first part, front sight, marks and serial number '205.1' and '205.2' under the barrel; engraved tangs, numbered likewise and with rear sight. Forward spring locks, curiously fixed with one screw in front and one on the counterplate side, engraved and browned en suite. Wooden half stocks finely checkered on the butt and with engraved and browned steel mounts (browning with small missing parts), trigger guards with finger support. In their wooden case, lid with brass mounts, with green cloth lining, provided with all tools and key. A pair of high-quality duelling pistols crafted for the Russian imperial market. length 44 cm.
