A German court rapier with gold-plated hilt, circa 1600/10 Slender double-edged thrusting blade of diamond section. The base of the blade slightly reinforced and with double fullers. On the ricasso mark "T" underneath a crown struck on both sides. Iron hilt with guard ring on the obverse and small guard plate on the reverse. Entirely covered with heavy fire gilding, the edges rubbed. Finely punched chessboard décor, interspersed with engraved acanthus leaves. Grip with original wrap of gilt copper wire and three Turks’ heads. Flattened pommel with eight grooves and decorated with punched and engraved ornaments. Length 125 cm. Condition: II -
