A helmet for officers in the General Staff of the Royal Saxon Army, circa 1914
Black lacquered shell of substitute material with silvered mounts, square front peak (after 1904). Applied to the screw-mounted guard star a smaller star with a gilt, part-enamelled medallion (small hairline cracks) featuring the Saxon coat of arms and the motto "PROVIDENTIAE MEMOR". Plate, star-stud retainers, spike neck with pearl frieze, detachable fluted spike. Convex, leather-lined chinscales on push-through rosettes and lacquered metal cockades of Saxon form. Fine blue-grey silk rep lining, ochre leather sweatband, red and green lined peak, respectively. Partially slightly damaged. Signs of age.
