A LARGE AMIDA RAIGO TRIAD. Japan, early Edo period (17th/1st half of 18th c.) Total height 112 cm, central figure 49 cm. Wood, lacqured in gold, the eyes of all three figures are inlaid with crystal. Amida Nyorai in the centre flanked by Kannon and Seishi represents the descent of the Buddha from heaven to take believers to the Western Paradise. Minor restorations. Provenance: Old Swiss private collection from Southern Switzerland. ------------------------------------------------- LARGE AMIDA RAIGO-TRIAS. Amida Nyorai stands in front of a nimbus (kτhai) on an elaborately crafted, multi-tiered lotus base, flanked by Kannon and Seishi floating on lotus pedestals. This depiction shows the descent of the Buddha from heaven to take the faithful to the Western Paradise. Min. rest. Provenance: Old Swiss private collection from Ticino.
