A LARGE RHINOCEROS HORN LIBATION CUP
China, 17th – early 18th century. Finely carved in high relief with Shoulao on a crane, flying towards a group of three scholars, standing above an incised wavy pattern, with a deer beneath, the openwork handle formed by two gnarly pine trees, below the inner rim with a further pine tree in reticulated carving.
Provenance: From the collection of Alexander Popov in Novi Sad, Kingdom of Serbia, acquired between 1900-1920.
Condition: Some age cracks, nibbling and small losses, including a section of the deer’s head. The wooden base is fixed to the cup, the bottom therefore cannot be inspected (damages possible).

The wooden base likely is an addition of the 19th century. Note the fine reddish-brown color of the horn.

清代大型犀角雕杯
中國,十七至十八世紀早期。細膩雕刻騎鶴壽老與松下三文人場景以及一隻鹿。鏤空手柄由兩顆遒勁的松樹枝幹雕刻而成,杯内沿処還有一棵松樹。雕工細膩,栩栩如生。
來源:塞爾維亞 諾維薩Alexander Popov收藏,購於1900-1920年間。
品相:一些老化開裂、磕損和小缺失,包括鹿頭的一部分。木底座固定在杯子上,因此底部無法檢查(可能有損壞)
