A PAIR OF CANDELABRA - The Embden Collection Louis XVI, Paris, ca. 1775. Gilt bronze and Carrara marble. A nymph carrying a cornucopia and a shell from which six light branches emerge, shaped like lily branches. Next to the nymphs stands a bacchante putto in front of a tree holding grapes, and a putto sitting on a dolphin blowing into a shell. Pedestal in the form of fluted columns with chased bronze fittings at the top and bottom as well as flower garlands, on a square base with recessed rounded corners. H 98 cm. Gilding rubbed. Crack in the base. Light branches need repair, some need to be reattached. Bronze decoration missing on the lower base. Holes in the shell and the cornucopia (formerly fitted for electricity).
