A PAIR OF EYE FRAGMENTS Egypt, probably Late Period, 26th–30th Dynasty, ca. 664–332 BC. Obsidian pupil and white stone set in bronze. Inventory number 22 on label on verso. L 6 cm. Bronze with verdigris and traces of corrosion. Provenance: - Estate of Dr. med. dent. Robert Schnell, Zurich, before 10.3.1969 (according to a copy of the estate inventory, No. 22). - By inheritance into a Swiss private collection. The pair of eyes on offer comes from the private collection of the well-known Zurich dentist Dr. Robert Schnell. His collection focused on abstract and surrealist art. It is hardly surprising that the surrealistic Egyptian eyes caught Dr. Schnell's interest. Part of his art collection was sold on 24 May 1962, at the Klipstein & Kornfeld Gallery in Berne.
