Oval plaque with scenes from John Milton's “Paradise Lost” with the Archangel Raphael in the central medallion, proclaiming the victory over the rebellious angels to Adam and Eve. H 83, W 64 cm. The Milton shield was made for the 1867 Paris Exposition Universelle, where it won a gold medal. This shield, along with a reproduction, are part of the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (Inv. Nos. 546-1868 and REPRO.1868C-138, respectively). A further reproduction is held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (Inv.
