A PAIR OF SCONCES - The Embden Collection
Louis XVI, France, ca. 1770/80.
Gilt bronze. Narrow wall plate decorated with mesh, buds, grapes and leaves, acanthus leaves and drapery with corded ends. Three curved, fluted light branches entwined with acanthus leaves and buds. Vase-shaped nozzles on wide, flat drip pans (later). Formerly fitted for electricity.
H 60.5 cm.
Partially oxidized. Partially loose. Drill holes and screw connection of the nozzle modified for fitting for electricity.
