A PAIR OF WALL SCONCES “TÊTE DE BÉLIER” Louis XVI, probably France or Russia, late 18th century. After an attributed model by Quentin-Claude Pitoin (1720–1777) in the style of Jean-Charles Delafosse (1734–1789). Nozzles and drip pans in part monogrammed J. Matte and polished gilt bronze, chased. Architecturally structured, narrow wall piece with a flamed vase top and an applied ram's head. Three volute-shaped light branches with acanthus leaf decoration and a laurel garland. Bowl-shaped drip pans, the underside with leaves in relief and decorated with bead and reel. Vase-shaped nozzles with meander decoration. Formerly fitted for electricity. H 51 cm. Gilding tarnished in some places. The bronzes partly rubbed and with scratches. A very similar wall sconce attributed to Quentin-Claude Pitoin is in the Musée du Louvre (inv. no. OA 5190). Bronze matt- und glanzvergoldet sowie ziseliert. Architektonisch gegliedertes schmales Wandstück mit geflammtem Vasenaufsatz sowie appliziert mit Widderkopf. Drei volutenförmige Lichtarme mit Akanthusblattdekor sowie behängt mit Lorbeergirlande. Schalenförmige Tropfteller, die Unterseite mit Blättern reliefiert sowie mit Perlstab besetzt. Vasenförmige Tüllen mit Mäanderbanddekor. Ehemals Elektrifiziert. H 51 cm. Vergoldung stellenweise angelaufen. Bronzen teils berieben und mit Kratzern. Vergleichbar ist eine sehr ähnliche Wandapplike im Musée du Louvre (Inv.-Nr. OA 5190), welche Quentin-Claude Pitoin zugeschrieben wird.
