A Pisan style half armour dating: about 1580 provenance: North Italy, Skull in one piece with sloping brim and twisted border. The surface divided in two segments on both sides, bands engraved with armour parts, animals and musical instruments on a dark, grained ground, each segment with a medallion featuring figures, a row of rivets with brass rosettes, brim engraved with foliage. Height 23 cm. Breast-plate ribbed in the center, with twisted neckline. Gussets of modern restoration. The surface engraved with seven bands decorated en suite, upper part with two medallions with faces looking at each other, a medallion with an archangel above. Complete with back-plate, gorget, brassards with pauldrons and knuckle-shields and tassets, all decorated in the same way. Small restorations and parts missing. Velvet/gilded thread decorations of modern era. Fine and uniform armour of this Italian classic. height as shown circa 99 cm.
