A plaster relief of the Virgin and Child from the workshop of Antonio Rossellino This high relief depicts the Virgin and Child enthroned within a garland of flowers and an architectural surround. The piece can be dated to around 1470/ 1490 and is based on a model by Antonio Rossellino (aka. Antonio Gambarelli) that was produced numerous times in his workshop in both plaster and terracotta, also after his death. This type of relief depiction of the Madonna surrounded by a garland – not found in many of Rossellino's other works – is named after an example housed in the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. A peculiarity of this particular relief within the type is the frieze of putti with the coat-of-arms on the lower edge. Certificate Giancarlo Gentilini (undated).
