A rapier
dating: circa 1600
provenance: Italy, Long, straight, double-edged blade, the first part grooved and signed 'PIETRO HERNANDEZ' among geometrical engravings, the second part of lozenge section, the tang engraved with a shield; beautiful, iron hilt carved with masks at the center of the loops, at the ends of the quillons and at the center of the pommel, and surrounded by floral motifs; four, smooth back quillons of round section; wooden grip covered with twisted, iron wire binding and Moor's heads at the edges. See a rapier with very similar hilt in the Vhu-Vojenske Museum in Prague. length 125 cm.
