A rare and fine puffer (wheel-lock) pistol
dating: Late 16th Century
provenance: Germany, Smooth-bore, two-stage, 16 mm cal. barrel, with wide moulding faceted at the girdle, octagonal in the first part, round in the second, with Saxony stamp, monogram 'HR', date '1590' and engraved ends; smooth and curved tang. External wheel lock, provided with sliding snap pan cover, cock and spring chiselled and engraved, safety lock. Blackened wooden, full stock (small restores) decorated with bone plates, engraved with faces (around the tang) and floral motifs. Spherical butt-plate with round plate, engraved with Saxony royal coat-of-arms; iron trigger-guard, bone-tipped wooden ramrod and iron base. length 54 cm.
