A RARE GILT LACQUER WITH SHIBAYAMA INLAID TRAY DEPCITING AN EAGLE Japan, Meiji era (1868-1912) Of rectangular form, the interior finely lacquered in gold takamaki-e and hiramaki-e with kirikane and shibayama inlaid on nashiji ground, to depict an eagle perched on a branche of trailing silky wisteria, its eyes keenly fixed on the fishes in the water.
