A rare pair of wheel-lock pistols (Puffer) dating: 1587 provenance: Saxony, Smoothbore, two-stage, 16 mm cal. barrels, with a faceted ring at the girdle, the first part is octagonal with a Saxon mark, the date “1587” and engraved ends, then round at the second part; engraved, curved tangs; external wheel locks with a trigger sliding pan cover, engraved and carved cock and spring; safety lock, wooden blackened full stocks (restored parts) decorated with bone plates engraved with faces (around the tang) and floral motifs, spherical butt-plates with round silver plate engraved with a warrior among racemes; iron trigger guards, bone-tipped wooden ramrods with iron base. Interesting pair of Puffer pistols for the personal guard of the Saxony princes Christian I and II. length 56 cm.
