A RENAISSANCE STYLE CASSONE, 19TH CENTURY RENAISSANCE STYLE CHEST, 19TH CENTURY carved and partially gilded wood; wide lid descends in moulding through several orders of carving and is carried on the front composed of an upper profile characterised by a succession of open flowers within roundels, which below continues on a wide band centred by a rampant lion within a cartouche surmounted by a mask, at the sides profiles of herms enclose medallions containing figures of putti lying on the back of a horse on the left and above a bull on the right, also surmounted by masks, at the corners two winged herms projecting in profile, while the sides are covered with rich leaf carving; lion paws, 61x170x57 cm Comparative literature F.
