A Russian shashka M 1910 for officers of the Cossacks, a rare alternative model dating from the Provisional Government, circa 1917
The fullered single-edged blade with two additional grooves on both sides. Extremely fine etching, partially gilt and blued with floral decoration on both sides. The Russian double-headed eagle without the tsarist crown etched on the obverse, a cartouche with the Cyrillic manufacturer's mark "Zlatoust Arms Factory" on the reverse. Floral decoration etched on the back of the blade. The brass hilt with remnants of gilding and floral ornamentation, especially made without the tsarist cipher. Grooved, patinated wooden grip. The black-lacquered scabbard showing signs of age, with brass fittings and a movable suspension ring. Length 94 cm. By all accounts, it was originally part of the Evgeny Mollo collection (1904-85).
