A 'Spyker' table clock, miniature rotary or radial engine with a pocket watch. Netherlands, circa 1915. Metal and marble. Table clock in the shape of a miniature rotary or radial engine from an airplane, set with a pocket watch. Mounted on a Vert de Mer marble base. With a metal nameplate reading 'Spyker', 'Trompenburg' and 'Amsterdam'. Netherlands, circa 1915. Spyker was the name under which aircraft were built from 1915 onwards by the Amsterdam manufacturer Trompenburg after a merger with the N.V. Nederlandse Vliegtuigenfabriek (Dutch Aircraft Factory). Trompenburg already manufactured cars with the same name, Spyker. By building aircraft, the company became the first fully-fledged Dutch aircraft manufacturer. At the end of 1919, Spyker ceased aircraft production.
