A Three-piece Garniture Clock and Candelabra, A. Moreau and J.J. Salmson, gilded bronze and black marble. Allegory of Literature. 19th century. Gilded and patinated bronze, mounted on black marble with orange/variegated marble inserts. An imposing mantel clock, finished with a bronze sculpture of the Greek poet Sappho, signed Moreau (for Auguste Moreau (1834-1917)), as an allegory of literature. The interior is signed 'Vincenti & Cie - 1855'. The clock is flanked by two matching candelabra with six candleholders. With patinated bronze sculptures of a woman with a chisel and hammer (allegory of sculpture) and a woman with a painter's palette (allegory of painting), signed Salmson (for Jean Jules B. Salmson (1823-1902)). Height of the candlesticks: 70 cm. (67 x 47 x 21 cm) Condition: We do not guarantee the working condition of the clocks and/or watches, and they have not been tested.
