D. 70 cm.br/ br/iA more detailled description, authenticated by clockmaker Mr. Carl Knudsen, Maribo Denmark 1975, of the clock is mounted inside the case.br/br/Although the movement is not signed the technical ability suggests that the clockwork most likely is made by the talented Swiss clockmaker Johann Mercki. Who lived in Copenhagen during his making of the very complicated tower clock at 'Vor Frelser Kirke' (Our Saviour Church) at Christianshavn.br/br/Provenance: Knuthenborg estate, the former dower house.br/br/'Clockmaker Carl Knudsen's description'br/br/Large and Black Longcase Clockbr/Manufactured by H. Bredendich, Copenhagen, in the year 1714.br/br/The name H. Breitendich, Kbhvn. is mentioned in papers dated 1704. Fr. Chr. Breidendich, Kbhvn., who is also mentioned, received a license in the year 1736 to manufacture mechanical music instruments (music clocks etc.)br/br/The clockwork is fitted with a mechanical movement, a stroke mechanism, a music mechanism, a monthly calendar, an hourly and quarter-hourly repeating strike mechanism and some smaller calendars. The mechanical movement is run by two weights of 54 kilos each. It can run for about 4 months when it has been fully wound. The hourly strike mechanism has to be wound up once a week. The musical mechanism, which is operated by a weight of about 50 kilos, has to be wound up daily. The hourly and quarter-hourly repeating strike mechanism runs on a tiny weight that automatically pulls itself up when the mechanism is activated.br/br/The chimes operate every full hour except between 11 pm and 5 am and 1 pm to 2 pm.br/br/The stroke of the clock is with a 24-hour partial dial, which means that the stroke will sound with the right connection with the hands of the clock, provided that the hammer mechanism has not been wound up within the functioning period of this mechanism.br/There exists a small device with which one can silence the chimes.br/The chimes are controlled by the hourly strike?s partial dial, and it therefore only works when the hammer mechanism is functioning.br/br/Maribo, September 1975br/Carl Knudsenbr/ DKK : 200000/0
