A very scarce double-barreled express rifle by J. Purdey
dating: about 1880
provenance: London, Round, rifled, browned, 400 cal barrels (clean bore, visible rifling), with high rib lowering at the center and rising again towards the nozzle. Engraved with 'J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTHS FLUID-PRESSED STEEL' at the center, swiveling, adjustable rear sight with two sight leaves and raised front sight.Tang finely engraved with floral motifs; backward spring locks signed 'J. PURDEY & SONS', provided with secure lock and decorated en suite; butt and fore-end with palm rest and knurled bae; iron mounts and lever decorated likewise. Lower tang with serial number '13xx'. Interesting double-barreled rifle with small caliber. length 107 cm.
