Lot no. 24
A white jade "ruyi scepter" plaque
China, Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644), 17th century
This oval jade ruyi plaque finely carved with an immortal behind a landscape is a splendid example of the artistry and craftsmanship of the era. Jade, a precious stone highly prized in Chinese culture, was often used to create ritual objects, jewelry, and decorative items.
This particular plaque was a part of a ruyi scepter. The ruyi (如意), meaning "as you wish" or "may all your wishes be fulfilled," is a curved, ceremonial object that symbolizes power, good fortune, and wish fulfillment.
