Abbot Jean BOULBAIN (1911-1973). Crowned Virgin and Child. Brown glazed earthenware subject signed on the back. Circa 1950. 28.5 x 18 x 8 cm. (2 slight chips). Note: Jean Boulbain is a former student of the Beaux-Arts. He taught drawing and illustration at the Collège Notre-Dame in Guingamp before being ordained a priest in 1936. Three models of this Virgin and Child are known, one in blue enamel, another in polychrome, and finally this model in brown glaze, which is thought to be an interpretation of the Black Virgin in the Basilica of Guingamp.
