A TURIN MAIOLICA HOLY WATER STOUP, ARDIZZONE OR ROSSETTI, THIRD QUARTER 18TH CENTURY- SLIGHTLY WORN, fSOME MINOR DEFECTS, A RESTORATION
Our maiolica is decorated with the scene of the Eucharistic Miracle of Turin, of which the tricentenary fell in 1753: the Turinese manufactures used the subject, in several variants, to decorate crockery and even stoups. Two other specimens in series with ours illustrated here are now in the collections of the Civic Museum of Palazzo Madama in Turin (Brosio, op. cit. 1973, tables IL and L, illustrating our lot in table 12). See also in Campanella (op. cit. , 2025) tab. 61, p. 191 for one of the stoups in Palazzo Madama.
