Our two paintings come from the collection of Cardinal Fesch and are described in detail in the catalogue of his death sale of 1845. Cardinal Fesch owned several paintings by Adam-Frans van der Meulen. The 1845 catalogue states that six paintings, including ours, may have come from the cabinet of Alexandre-Louis Hersant-Destouches (1731-1795), fermier général, intendant to the Countess of Artois and régisseur des aides and secretary to the King.
