Lot no. 346
Adolf Luther (1912 Uerdingen - 1990 Krefeld) Mirror object Round concave mirror surface with square, chessboard-like mirror field, mounted in original frame made of black painted wood and aluminium. Signed and dated on the reverse. (19)85 and with the artist's handstamp "ENERGETISCHE PLASTIK" in red. Luther, the main representative of kinetic art and optical art, discovered light as a direct design factor in space. Since the 1960s, he has experimented with various optical materials, glass and glass fragments, concave concave mirrors and convex, curved mirrors and prisms for his objects, which visualise energy directly in the form of light. The viewer also plays a part in this by moving through the space. His concave mirror objects, which he also realised in public spaces, are among the artist's classic light objects, with which he achieved lasting significance for contemporary art. Approx. 62 cm x 62 cm x 7 cm. Provenance: Auction Nagel, Stuttgart 18.10.1997, lot 1232; Auction Grisebach, Berlin 5.6.2010, lot 305. Mirror sculpture mounted in original ebonized wood and aluminium frame. Signed and dated (19)85 on the reverse, further artist's stamp.
