Das vorliegende Gemälde zeigt sowohl inhaltlich, als auch anhand des Pinselduktus und der Farbpalette eine sehr enge Verbindung zu der vorangegangen Lotnummer, dem Querformat "Arabische Reiter an einer Furt". Der Fokus und somit auch der Zweck bei Schreyers Orientdarstellungen liegt nicht im Didaktischen, sondern vielmehr auf der Darstellung der Harmonie von Pferd und Reiter, der Einbettung der meist im Vordergrund hervorgehobenen Menschen- und Tiergruppe in die Umgebung. Der besondere Reiz der Gemälde gründet somit in den von Schreyer vermittelten Stimmungen. The present painting shows in its motif, its brushstroke, and its palette a very close link to the previous lot, the painting entitled “Arabian Horseman by a Ford”. In his paintings with Oriental themes, Schreyer did not have a didactic intention, but aimed to depict the harmony of horse and rider, the integration of the figures and the animal in the foreground into the landscape. The charm of this work lies in the mood that Schreyer conveys in his depiction. We are grateful to Dr. Christoph Andreas who after first hand examination confirmed the authenticity of this painting.
