Adolph Menzel (Wrocław 1815 – 1905 Berlin). Study on Heinrich von Kleist: "The Broken Jug". (before) 1877
Chalk on light cardboard. 18 × 24,3 cm (7 ⅛ × 9 ⅝ in.). Signed in the upper centre (somewhat trimmed): Ad. Menz[el]. Inscribed in the lower centre: 2 aus u. 2 einspringende Bugfalten[?]. On the reverse the small oval stamp in reddish brown (not in Lugt) : M-J.
Study for the woodcut in the 10th appearance: On the right, village judge Adam pouring wine for the court councillor Walter (on the left, probably a study - not used - for the drinking village judge Adam).
