Adolphe Torelli held the position of head bartender at some of the finest hotels on the Côte d'Azur, including the Winter-Palace in Nice. His book contains the first written mention of the ″Americano″ cocktail (lemon zest, Campari, red Vermouth, sparkling water). He was a pioneer of cocktail culture in Europe. His first edition of ″Guide du barman et du gourmet chic″, containing 690 recipes, was published in 1921-1922.
