With handwritten provenance note: Graf, January 1811 - The Aesopian fables consist of tales and stories attributed to the ancient writer Aesop. Aesop lived on the Greek island of Samos in the middle of the 1st century BC. The fables process and deal with human weaknesses and have always been realised artistically. - Johann Christoph Kolb (1680-1743) was an engraver and publisher from Augsburg. - Each with title and Latin and German inscription in the plate. - Margins browned and with losses. Foxing and water stains. Some with handwritten annotations in pencil. Illustrations largely unimpaired. Splendid and high-contrast engravings. With engraved title page and 50 engraved plates. Paper cover. (Rear joint cracked. Back broken. Heavily rubbed and chipped.) - The Aesopian fables consist of stories and tales that are attributed to the ancient scribe Aesop.
