Agathon LEONARD (1841-1923) (Agathon Léonard von der WEYDEVELD) Salome, the model created around 1908 A chryselephantine sculpture. Bronze with medallic patina. The waistband of the skirt and the headdress are embellished with red and turquoise enamel dots. The torso, head, arms and hands are in finely carved ivory. The arm bracelets and necklace are in gilded brass. Signed A. Leonard on the terrace and numbered XXXVIII on the reverse. Height: 33.5 - Length: 9 - Depth: 9 cm (veil missing, minor enamel damage). Note: The sculptor very probably took Cléo de Mérode (1875-1966), a true idol of dance at the time, as the model for this work, as the face and movement evoke her. Exhibition: a copy of this model was shown at the Salon National des Beaux-arts in Paris in 1908.
