An account of Father de Agostini's first voyages and expeditions to Tierra del Fuego. Alberto de Agostini was born in Italy in 1883 and ordained a priest in the Salesian order in 1910. Sent on a mission to southern Argentina, he also embarked on a career as an explorer, making his first attempt to climb Mount Sarmiento in Tierra del Fuego in 1913. Throughout his life, he made numerous expeditions to the Andes of Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. He made the first ascent of San Lorenzo (3,610 m) in 1944 and led the victorious expedition to Mount Sarmiento in 1956, at the age of 73. A fine and important work.
