Provenance : Former Napoleonic collection of the Prince's Palace of Monaco (3rd sale, lot 168) A wooden flag or facing eagle in the model of the eagles of 1860, popular work from the Second Empire period Historical background : This eagle was referenced by expert René Johnson as an eagle made during Emperor Napoleon I's stay on the island of Elba (1814). However, its close resemblance to Second Empire models rules out this hypothesis.
