After exhibiting regularly at the Salon under her maiden name from 1822 to 1833, she went on to show her work under her husband's name, painting portraits, religious pictures and, more occasionally, history. Our pair of paintings are among the sentimental genre scenes that made Aimée Brune-Pagès such a success. Depicting blond odalisques with pearly flesh, contemplating their mirrors, they closely resemble the composition of Le Sommeil, exhibited by the artist at the Salon of 1831 (cat. no. 1587).
