AKAN, Ghana/Côte d'Ivoire. Bronze, lost wax casting, patina of use. Rectangular box used to store gold powder, the geometrically decorated lid is adorned with two birds at each end. A scale for weighing the gold dust is included, 15.5 cm. 1st third of the 20th century. Size: 7.5x3x3 cm. Provenance: François Bertrand Collection, Paris. Then by descent. Would have been acquired from the Maurice Ratton gallery (family tradition).
