Only slight traces of handling have browned the fields, without dents or major defects. Superb at Fleur de coin. On 1st September 1928, Ahmet Zogu, President of the Albanian Republic, after amending the Constitution, proclaimed himself King of the Albanians under the name of Zog I. He decided to modernise Albania by muzzling all opposition. He introduced a civil, criminal and commercial code. He eradicated feudalism, established universal suffrage and women's right to vote in 1937, and developed the country's infrastructure. Agriculture was reformed. The 1929 crisis affected the country, which fell increasingly under the control of Fascist Italy. In 1934, Zog I had to accept Mussolini's treaties, which transformed Albania into an Italian protectorate. In 1939, Zog I had to flee before the Italian troops, abdicated and handed over his crown to Victor-Emmanuel III. In 1943, Albania came under Nazi occupation, from which it freed itself in November 1944. In 1946, a People's Republic was proclaimed.
