A PESARO MAIOLICA ALBARELLO, 1579; SLIGHTLY WORN, MINOR GLAZE LOSSES, RESTORATIONS
Our maiolica belongs to the well-known apothecary decorated with the allegory of Fortuna Marina or Galatea, known today in several examples in various public and private collections: among them the Sackler collection (no. 44), the Musée Cluny in Paris (J. Giacomotti, Catalogue des Majoliques des Musées Nationaux, Paris 1974, no. 991, p. 321) and the Metropolitan Museum in New York (T. Wilson, Italian Maiolica of the Renaissance, Milan 1996, p. 360-366), but see also C. Fiocco, G. Gherardi, La maiolica rinascimentale di Casteldurante. Collezione Saide e Mario Formica, Jesi 1997, ad vocem.
For this production see, amongst others, Fiocco and Gherardi in 1997 (C. Fiocco, G. Gherardi, La maiolica rinascimentale di Casteldurante. Collezione Saide e Mario Formica, Jesi 1997) and to Timothy Wilson in 1996 (T. Wilson, Italian Maiolica of the Renaissance, Milan 1996, pp. 360-366).
