Lot no. 332
Albert DUPLAIN (1890-1978), 'Lac et montagnes', oil on canvas, signed lower left. H. 45 x 60 cm Note: Albert Duplain (1890-1976) was a Swiss painter from the canton of Vaud, best known for his depictions of Lavaux and Lake Geneva landscapes. Although details of his life are limited, his works continue to feature regularly at auctions and in some Swiss galleries. His artistic style is characterised by a realistic and precise approach, with particular attention to architectural and natural details. Her canvases capture the light and colours of Lavaux and Lake Geneva with finesse. Some of his work has been exhibited, notably at the Galerie des Annonciades. On the art market, his paintings are sought after by lovers of Swiss landscapes. Prices vary according to format and subject, generally ranging from CHF 100 to CHF 1,800. For example, "Vue de Chexbres" sold for $1,599 in 2024 (Dobia 08/11/2024 Lot 673). Albert Duplain is sometimes confused with Ami-Ferdinand Duplain (1891-1966), another contemporary Swiss painter. However, their styles differ: Albert favoured a more precise rendering, while Ami-Ferdinand had a more fluid and vigorous touch. Their signatures also help to distinguish them: Albert signed "A. Duplain" with a capital "A", while Ami-Ferdinand used "afd" or "afduplain" in lower case. Despite the lack of detailed biographical information, Albert Duplain's work continues to attract the attention of collectors, particularly those with a passion for Swiss landscapes and the Lavaux region.
