ALBERT EINSTEIN (1879-1955). AUTOGRAPH. Black and white photograph by Edward H. Gwerin Empire News showing Edwin Salpeter, Professor Emeritus of Physical Sciences at Cornell, standing and speaking next to Einstein seated, along with other dignitaries, signed by Albert Einstein, inscribed and dated lower right "To High Salpeter, A. Einstein. 51''. Almost certainly unique, slight brushing to signature and inscription, minor wear and creasing. 20.7 x 25.5 cm Albert Einstein developed the general theory of relativity, one of the two pillars of modern physics (along with quantum mechanics). Einstein's work is also known for its influence on the philosophy of science. Einstein is best known in popular culture for his mass-energy equivalence formula E = mc2 (which has been dubbed "the world's most famous equation"). He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921 for his "services to theoretical physics", in particular his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect, a crucial step in the development of quantum theory.
