Lot no. 1564
Albert Jansz. Klomp (c. 1618 Amsterdam - c. 1688 ibid.) Resting herd with bull, cow, sheep and goat in a meadow at the edge of a forest Typical motif and style, representative of Klomp's oeuvre, who created a series of comparable atmospheric landscapes with grazing cattle and herdsmen motifs from around 1660, which can be found in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, among others. With their artistically exquisitely executed, very lively cattle staffages, they are comparable to works by Karel Dujardin, Adriaen van den Velde and Paulus Potter, whose forged signatures were often added to them. Oil on canvas; signed and indistinctly dated on the reverse; 32.5 cm x 40 cm. Baroque frame. Provenance: Auction "Old Master Pictures", Christie's, Amsterdam. 07.05.1992, lot 87. Oil on canvas.
