Lot no. 1888
Albert von Keller (1844 Gais - 1920 Munich)
"Julia". Original title
Characteristic Art Nouveau work painted by Keller in 1904, in which the protagonist in her red, flowing dress represents the epitome of longing, as manifested by Fritz von Ostini in 1905. Throughout his life, Albert von Keller was under the spell of women, whose depictions, such as conventional commissioned portraits, portraits of elegant and sophisticated ladies, nudes and femmes fatales in undressed beauty and lascivious poses, dominate his entire oeuvre. Albert von Keller was a founding member of the Munich Secession in 1892 and its deputy president from 1904 to 1920. It was during this time that he discovered Impressionism and an occasionally expressive style. At the beginning of the 20th century, Albert von Keller was one of the most important and sought-after Munich artists - in 1908 the Secession honoured him with a major retrospective, in which the present work was also shown. Oil/wood panel. Signed lower right; 47.7 cm x 24.3 cm. Frame.
