Albrecht DÜRER (1471-1528), after
Saint Eustace (also known as Saint Hubert).
Burin. A fine late print (probably late 16th century), yellowed, incomplete by a few millimetres, held together by a mounting strip at the top edge. Strong horizontal fold in the middle with tears, reinforced on the reverse. Numerous tears, cracks, small losses and thinning, foxing.
Dutch style frame: 61.5 x 52cm.
(Hollstein 60, Strauss 34) 35.4 x 25.8cm.
The Saint Eustatius is Dürer's largest engraving, approximately the same size as the woodcuts of the Apocalypse. It is one of the artist's most important works and is considered to be the "first high point" of his engraving oeuvre.
